KEY RULES & RESTRICTIONS
- Matching gift cards are valued at 50% of the original gift card purchase. Matching gift cards are capped at $100 each. (Ex.: Purchase one (1) $200 gift card to business A, receive one (1) $100 matching gift card to business B)
- A minimum gift card purchase of $20 is required in order to receive a matching gift card
- There is a limit of three (3) matching gift cards per customer
- Customers’ 50% matching gift cards will be from other participating businesses and selected by the Short North Alliance.
- Customers who make gift card purchases to niche industry businesses (Fitness, Tobacco, Vape, Hookah, CBD, Tattoo, Bed & Breakfast, Adult Retail, and the like,) will likely or may receive a second gift card to the purchased store or a similar store worth 50% of the value of their original purchase. Ex. Customers who purchase a gift card to High St. CBD for $50 will receive a second gift card worth $25 to High St. CBD or similar business.
- Matching gift cards will only be awarded until matching funds are exhausted. The Short North Alliance will do its best to communicate once funds are depleted, but by purchasing a gift card, you assume the risk that you may not receive a matching gift card.
CUSTOMER TERMS
The Short North Alliance is the administrator of the Short North Arts District Local Business Gift Card Give Back program. Once a purchase has been made, the named merchant the purchaser selected and the matching merchant assigned to the purchaser will issue the gift card directly to the purchaser. No refunds or exchanges will be given except where required by law.
Gift cards issued under this program carry the same risk that all gift cards have. Specifically, that the merchant issuing the gift card may cease business and not be able to provide the goods or services.
After the issuance of the gift card, purchasers should contact the merchant directly with any questions or problems. Purchasers understand and agree that problems associated with a gift card are the sole responsibility of the issuing merchant and not the Short North Alliance. Purchaser releases the Short North Alliance from all liability and responsibility associated with the failure of the issuing merchant to be able to provide the goods or services.

What is this?
The Short North Arts District Local Business Gift Card Give Back program is designed to support and inject funds directly into our local business community. The program incentivizes the purchase of gift cards by the public at participating local Short North Arts District Businesses.
Members of the public who purchase a gift card to a participating local Short North Arts District Business via the Short North Arts District Local Business Gift Card Give Back website will receive a second gift card valued at 50% of their original purchase (up to $100) to another local participating Short North Arts District Businesses as a reward for making their purchase. Matching gift cards will be selected by the Short North Alliance, and customers will not have a say in matching gift cards they receive. A minimum original gift card purchase of $20 is required to receive a match, matching gift cards will not exceed $100 each, and the Short North Alliance will match a maximum of 3 gift cards per customer.
The Short North Alliance has raised over $55,000 to purchase matching gift cards from participating local businesses. Matching funds will be distributed evenly to local businesses, taking into account funds that businesses have already received from the original gift card purchases.
The Short North Alliance Gift Card Give Back program will start on Monday, December 7. The program is intended to last until matching funds run out.
Do I get to select the 50% matching gift card(s) I receive?
To ensure that the Short North Arts District Local Business Gift Card Give Back supports our entire business community, the Short North Alliance will assign matching gift cards from all participating businesses. Our matching process takes into account the business(es) the original gift card purchase(s) was made from when selecting a matching gift card, however we cannot guarantee that each customer will be satisfied with their free matching gift card assignment(s). (Note: For niche industry businesses such as Fitness, Tobacco, Vape, Hookah, CBD, Tattoo, Bed & Breakfast, Adult Retail industries and the like, customers will receive matching gift cards to the same or a similar business as purchased.)
What happens if a business closes before I can redeem my gift card?
Unfortunately, like all gift card purchases, there are no guarantees about the ability of a business to maintain its operations in the long or short-term. Our hope is that by providing our local businesses with support resources and encouraging gift card sales on a site like this, the local businesses that make our neighborhoods vibrant year-round will be able to survive and, eventually, thrive. However, that is not guaranteed, and refunds will not be available through this initiative, so please make your selections with this in mind.
How and when will I receive my gift card?
Once you complete your purchase, you’ll immediately receive a receipt in your email inbox that verifies the purchase, including the business from which you bought your original gift card(s), the value of those card(s), and the expected turnaround time to receive the purchased gift card(s). Make sure you save your receipt! You will receive the same information on your matching gift cards by Friday, December 11.
Each business will fulfill your gift card according to the terms indicated on their business listing. Some businesses will physically mail a gift card to your shipping address, some will email you a digital gift card, while others will accept your purchase receipt as a gift certificate. Participating businesses are required to send out gift cards by email or mail by Wednesday, December 16. However, we cannot guarantee delivery in time for the holidays / by a certain date. If you experience a delay in receiving any of your gift cards, please contact the providing business.

When can I redeem my gift card?
This will depend on the business. Next to each gift card product, you should see a paragraph titled “Gift Card Redemption” that offers these details. Please note that some businesses may close (temporarily or permanently) after having been included on this marketplace. Additionally, some businesses are set up to only accept gift cards in person. We recommend calling or emailing the individual business if you have any questions about redemption.
I don’t see a receipt in my email. Where is it?
Your original receipt will be coming from “info@shortnorth.org”. Please be sure to check your spam, junk and/or promotions folders. This should be sent within a few minutes of your order completion. Send us an email if you’re having trouble. You may also save or print your order confirmation page.
Can I purchase a gift card as a gift?
Yes, just be sure to list the recipient’s mailing address as your shipping address. If the gift card is sent digitally, you can forward over any redemption communications to your gift recipient via email.
Can I return my gift cards?
All sales made through the Short North Alliance Local Business Gift Card Give Back are final. We are not able to process returns and/or exchanges for any purchased gift cards and/or matching gift cards and no refunds and/or credits will be provided.
What if I don’t like or can’t use my matching gift cards?
Due to the nature of this program, and because the intention of the program is to support our entire business community, customers are not able to select their matching gift cards. While the type of originally purchased gift card is taken into consideration when matching selections are made, we cannot promise every customer will be satisfied with their free 50% matching gift card(s). In the event that you are not satisfied with your matching gift card(s), we recommend gifting your matching gift cards or trading with another friend who participated in the program. (Note: For niche industry businesses such as Fitness, Tobacco, Vape, Hookah, CBD, Tattoo, Bed & Breakfast, Adult Retail industries and the like, customers will receive matching gift cards to the same or a similar business as purchased.)
What if I purchase my gift card after matching funds run out?
It is possible that, due to the time of your purchase and popularity of the program, you may purchase a gift card after the period of time when matching funds run out. The Short North Alliance will make every effort to communicate publicly through our website as soon as matching funds are no longer available for gift card purchases. But, it is possible that a purchase could be made before we are able to publish our communications that matching funds have been exhausted. By purchasing a gift card, you assume the risk that you may not receive a matching gift card. Unfortunately, we are not able to issue refunds for any gift cards purchased at any time, including after matching funds have been exhausted. We recommend making your purchase early in the program to ensure you receive a matching gift card.
