Columbus Eyeworks has been providing patients with the highest quality of vision services since 2000, residing here in the Short North even longer than the iconic arches that now span the district. The private optometry practice has experienced immense growth since then and on January 27, 2009 they moved to a new and larger office in the Short North. Columbus Eyeworks is now located at 25 W Hubbard St, directly behind Rosendales. The recent expansion brought a new addition to the staff, with Dr. Ame Cline joining owner Dr. Daniel Koch last July.
Columbus Eyeworks was previously located at 1127 N High St, where it had consistent growth from day one. Dr. Koch graduated from the OSU School of Optometry and delivered care to patients in private and group practices in Northeast Ohio until moving back to Columbus in the late 90s and making the decision to open up his own practice. He chose the Short North for its spirit and focus on art.
Columbus Eyeworks’ modern flair has always been in keeping with Short North style. The new space was once the service garage for Winders Motor Company. Now it has been transformed to feel welcoming and open, with exposed wooden ceiling arches, bamboo floors, and numerous mirrors. In an effort to be green in the building process, the interior uses many of the same elements from the old office but adds more warmth and much more room. In terms of square footage, the entire office is twice the size of the old space and the retail frame area is close to three times larger than it used to be, allowing for expanded frame selection and enhanced service.
Dr. Koch reveals that the success of Columbus Eyeworks has been beyond what he ever expected. “Starting out in 2000, we had a pretty good feeling that we could do well, but you never know for sure,” he explains. Now, in moving to a new location, they have seen a rise in traffic, with an estimated thirty percent increase in business compared to this time last year. “The new space has generated a lot of interest,” Dr. Koch says.
The practice now has four exam rooms instead of just two, making it easier to accommodate patient flow and efficiency. Licensed Optometrist and fellow OSU graduate Dr. Ame Cline has also helped improve patient care. Dr. Koch says she’s been a wonderful fit.: “Patients love Dr. Cline. We looked at eight different doctors, and we’re really pleased that patients like who we chose to join our practice."
The new location on Hubbard and the addition of Dr. Cline aren’t the only exciting new happenings at Columbus Eyeworks. Starting this spring, the office will exhibit the photographic impressions of Alyssa Petrosky, Dr. Koch’s niece, who has a keen eye for photography. They look to have her exhibit up by the April 4 Gallery Hop.
By then Columbus Eyeworks will have also gone to Vision Expo East in New York City and returned with the season’s newest products in brands of eyeglasses, sunglasses and contact lenses. Columbus Eyeworks proudly offers frame lines that aren’t carried at many other offices, such as Prada, Lafont, Oakley, and ProDesign, making Columbus Eyeworks the place to discover great eyewear.
