The second annual Art Al Fresco presented by The Wood Companies will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009.



Art Al Fresco is the Short North’s public art day celebrating performing and visual arts. Art al Fresco made its debut on Saturday, August 16, 2008 in the heart of the Short North Arts District, and by every measure, it was a smash success. Over 5,000 guests showed up, touring High Street, cameras in hand to experience dozens of public art installations and scores of live art performances. The Columbus Dispatch enthusiastically proclaimed: "Bohemians on the Loose!" And the event’s premiere was nominated for the GCAC’s Artistic Excellence Award. This year’s event will be even bigger with an expected audience of over 10,000.



The three main components of Art Al Fresco are Unexpected Guests, Peep Show, and The Usual Suspects.



Unexpected Guests

seeks artists working in all media and disciplines for the temporary installation of art of all scales in outdoor spaces. Art included is accepted based on its vibrancy, playfulness, whimsy, engagement, and peculiarity. Many pieces are interactive. Projections and neon pieces come alive at night. On the day of the event, a panel of judges will announce top honors for various categories. Works suitable for long-term display will remain installed for up to one month. Winning exhibits will be spotlighted in future gallery exhibitions.



Peep Show

provides a venue for performing artists. Street and window performers of all kinds entertain with out-of-the-box acts: musicians, models, dancers, sideshow acts, and more.



The Usual Suspects

incorporates the fabulous collection of regional, national, and international artwork on display in the district’s plethora of galleries and alternative venues. Watch for new exhibits and artists giving demonstrations onsite.
